We are now recruiting a Senior Research Scientist for a one year assignment (to start with, but it might be longer), preferably the candidate start in February, location Mölndal.
Job Purpose:
To be lab-based, providing expertise in the competency of assay development, propose experimental strategies, troubleshoot problems and to make a significant contribution to the practical delivery of projects in accordance with SHE requirements and in compliance with all AZ Corporate responsibility policies.
The following skills are highly desirable:- Expertise in cell-based assay design, preferentially including assays on primary cells
- Theoretical understanding of assay design relevant to the pharmacology
- Practical understanding of assay optimisation, including statistical tools such as factorial experimental design, to enable generation of robust, reproducible and sensitive assays
- Thorough understanding of cell based assay technology platforms and ability to troubleshoot
- Knowledge of detection technologies, including spectroscopic (e.g. absorbance, fluorescence modalities), luminescent and label-free detection
- Understanding of data analysis and conversion of screening data to biological parameters
Accountabilities:- To work independently to contribute to the design and analysis of experimental procedures by incorporating the views of others
- To show self-awareness of training needs including leadership development.
- To interpret experimental data and play a significant role in the planning of further experiments.
- To maintain an awareness of current developments in the literature.
- To act as a mentor, coach and role model for research scientists.
- To contribute to the continuous improvement process by identifying opportunities in the workplace where improvements can be made.
- To be an effective team member in supporting Discovery Projects to meet their objectives
- To identify and solve problems associated with their experiments.
- To use judgment and knowledge where appropriate to influence the work of the project, team, section and department.
- To achieve personal scientific visibility through project contributions, internal presentations and publications.
- To contribute to writing abstracts/patents and peer-reviewed publications
- To schedule agreed work-plans over agreed timelines to such that the objectives of the team are met.
- To understand and develop, if appropriate for the discipline, an intellectual property strategy for the project and its significance in securing AZ?s position.
- To conduct where appropriate in parallel more than one agreed area of work to agreed timelines.
- To participate in and contribute to local discipline review groups
- May be a key member of a collaboration or supervise (not line manage) an external scientist for AZ
- May lead one or more aspects of the scientific discipline within their team.
Functional Knowledge:Ideally should have a Ph.D in a relevant scientific discipline, or a BSc/MSc. degree with relevant experience in drug discovery or early development.
